The Impact of Celebrities--Essay Prompt
The prompt can be found in the files at the bottom of this page.

Read the prompt carefully before composing the first draft of your essay.
The Impact of Celebrities
  • Watch the three videos about the Impact of Celebrities (see the ERWC links to the right).
  • Take Cornell notes as you watch.
    • Remember that Cornell notes should show:
      • the Essential Question (What impact do celebrities have on society?)
      • the notes in the right-hand column
      • questions related to the notes in the left-hand column
      • a summary at the end of the notes (in this case, it is okay to have one summary that includes the notes from all three videos)
ei and ie Spelling Words
deceive, sovereignty, grievance, forfeiture, menagerie, leisure, premier, beige, species, feigned

Homework: Write a descriptive paragraph using 6 of the vocab/spelling words. Your paragraph should have a clear topic sentence which tells what you are describing.
Homework Center
Homework Center is offered three days a week--Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday--from 2:15-3:15. I, along with another teacher and two instructional aides, am at Homework Center to provide assistance to students in all subject areas.

This is a good time for students to catch up on missing work, study for upcoming tests, get help filling out TRFs, or seek help with specific problems in their homework.

How to Build an Ornithopter
Several students have expressed an interest in building an ornithopter like the one Freak flies at the beginning of Freak the Mighty. Unfortunately, we don't have the time to build one during class. But here are a few youtube videos that show you how it's done if you want to build one on your own.

(And yes, I'd offer extra credit if you built it and provided written directions.)
